British embassy clarifies Bahrain visa move

The UK Embassy in Bahrain has assured Britons in the country about new immigration regulations which mean they will not be able to get visas on arrival anymore, according to tradearabia.com.
The embassy said that the proposed changes concerning Bahraini visas remain at an early stage. It explained that it had been informed by the Ministry of Interior that any possible changes regarding obtaining Bahraini visas are being studied by immigration, but are at an early stage.
It went on to say that while there is the plan to set new regulations so that the visa must be obtained before arrival, the existing arrangements are still in place for the time being. It said that once anything specific about the implementation date comes out, it will inform those who need to know.
Interior Minister Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa said the changes are being brought in to try and prevent violations and ensure countries which enforce strict entry regulations on Bahrainis are treated equally.
Visitors from the UK as well as 26 other European nations and the US, Canada, Japan and Australia will be among the people affected. Expatriates of a number of nationalities have criticised the new regulations, saying they would impact tourism at a time the country needs it the most.
