Canada’s natural beauty, healthcare services, security and multicultural society made it the number one place in the world for UK expats, revealed an annual index.
The NatWest International Personal Banking Quality of Life Index also showed that despite the global economic woes, over two thirds of British expats did not feel their quality of life overseas had worsened and even fewer intended to return home, reports Reuters.
The fifth index by the bank revealed that most British expats are of the opinion that moving abroad was the right decision and that over half of them have not needed to reduce their spending by a significant amount due to the economic backlash from the debt crisis which has depressed tie worldwide economy for several years.
Dave Isley, the head of international personal banking at NatWest said that the index revealed expats had cruised through the most turbulent global economic times since World War II ended. He explained that the Quality of Life Index shows the financial crisis has been unable to dampen expats’ spirits as they seem to have remained calm and just got on with their lives.
Expats living in Hong Kong, Singapore, UAE and China claimed their financial situation had “dramatically improved” since moving to their new home. Those in Canada, New Zealand and Australia said their financial position had “improved significantly”. Meanwhile, those living in the US, Western Europe and South Africa were less enthusiastic, saying that their financial position had “improved moderately”,
Canada came in first for best quality of life experience for expats. Some 88 per cent of expats revealed that multiculturism was a factor, while 90 per cent pointed to the healthcare system and 96 per cent felt that the country’s freedoms and human rights helped them feel safe in Canada.
