US immigration bill for Ireland stalled

Passage of an E3 immigration bill for Ireland is being blocked by republican Senator Charles Grassley from Iowa. According to IrishCentral, hopes that Grassley will deal with members of his own party and the Democrats over the issues have faded.
There have been no major developments since Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown said the E3 bill was “ready to pop” a few weeks ago. It is believe that he would gain much-need Irish American support in Massachusetts for his re-election campaign if he passed the bill. In a move that could affect Brown, Grassley has however reportedly refused to discuss a compromise.
United Irish Counties of Massachusetts head James Gallagher said that residents have been promised similar things in the past and that simply verbally supporting the bill is not enough. It is now believed that the involvement of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is the only way forward.
Up to 10,000 Irish workers could come to the US and work every year if the E3 visas are passed. Ireland currently has no visa bill deal with the US, although 20 other countries do.
