Those considering packing up and starting a new life in Australia have received a boost from the country’s Department of Immigration after it lowered its pass mark for UK nationals seeking a migration visa from 65 points to 60 points in order to attract more skilled workers Down Under.
In recent times, emigrating to Australia has been an extremely challenging process, with factors such as net worth and family history being looked at in addition to the would-be migrant’s educational qualifications and occupational skills.
UK-based migration specialists The Emigration Group director Paul Arthur said Australia is currently in the midst of a huge migration drive – one of the biggest it has undertaken in 40 years. He explained that the lowering of the points pass mark is only part of the initiative, which will also facilitate the migration visa application process for UK nationals who hope to live and work Down Under.
The move, which comes into effect from 1 July, is among a number of immigration reforms currently being introduced. It follows recent launch of the SkillSelect initiative, which was updated so as to include Engineering, Computer Network & Systems, Mining Production Management, Metallurgy and Optometry.
These jobs were put on an already-lengthy list, which was made up of occupations such as healthcare professionals, accountants, teachers and construction engineers.
