A recently published survey indicates that the majority of expats who have chosen the US as their new home are satisfied with their decision. The 2012 Expat Sentiment Survey Report was conducted by VIP Communications and found 94 per cent of those who responded were convinced they had made the correct decision to move to the US with 88 per cent admitting they would do it again if given the choice.
Researchers asked expats what it was they most missed about their home country with 80 per cent responding it was family and friends. Entertainment, sports and food also ranked highly as a source of homesickness.
When asked about the quality of life in the US, 69 per cent said they believed it would improve over 2013. The majority of respondents gave their quality of life over the past year a mark of 8/10 with 16 per cent giving it 9/10. Only one per cent gave either 2/10 or 3/10 as their scores.
However, more than half of the respondents (56 per cent) admitted that the US did not compare when it came to their home country for cooking. In terms of entertainment and sport 73 per cent said the US was far better than other countries.
The US also scored well with expats in terms of security and education with 83 per cent saying the US had a better system of education than back home and 62 per cent said they felt safer in the US than they did in their native country.
