An inquest has heard how British woman who moved to Turkey in an effort to find love died after she contracted an illness after not taken to a hospital by her boyfriend. Beverly Mitchell died two weeks after falling ill with the mystery disease. The illness caused respiratory failure.
Although a second post mortem was carried out in the UK, the results were inconclusive. However there was no evidence of injury or drug or alcohol abuse according to the toxicology reports.
The inquest heard how he 34-year-old was often drunk, covered in bruises and underweight. Her boyfriend, named Shahin, was described as roguish and controlling. Miss Mitchell reportedly told friends and parents that she was being beaten and before she died in July 2012 said she had also been raped on one occasion by two men.
Coroner Peter Bedford was told that because Shahin had disappeared following Miss Mitchell’s death, it was unlikely that the British or the Turkish authorities would ever be able to find out exactly what happened.
Miss Mitchell decided to stay in Turkey following the loss of her IT job. Ken, her father, told the inquest his daughter would phone him in tears and then call back explaining that her boyfriend had apologised. He added that she had moved to Turkey in search of love, but never found it.
