Better jobs tempt British workers overseas

An increasing number of British Nationals are looking to escape the economic doldrums in the UK by moving abroad for work. A recent survey by Lloyds TSB International has revealed that 30 per cent of people now calling another country their home have done so because of better job prospects, up from the 27 per cent who claimed the same in last year’s poll.
A better quality of life is also important with nearly half of the respondents admitting they had chosen to move out of Britain for new life experiences and to give their families an improved quality of living.
The UK economy has been stagnant for the past few years and inflation is rising at a faster rate than wage increases. This is probably why more people are being attracted to work in other countries. Other factors contributing to the decision to move overseas include high rates of tax, crime and the unpredictable British weather.
According to Lloyds TSB International Private Bank Director, Richard Musty, the difficult employment market at home is driving people to relocate outside the UK. He added that many foreign companies were offering to help citizens from Britain to settle into a new environment.
Around half of all respondents to the survey said that had been given a moving allowance, help with housing costs and flights home.
