As Ireland’s economy continues to struggle more workers are looking for job opportunities in other countries. A lack of job prospects and a general malaise have also helped push migration levels to an all time high.
However a recent study also found that many those who have full time jobs would be interested in making a move overseas if the right opportunity presented itself. Cheaper air fares and a burgeoning international jobs market are also helping to attract Irish workers away from home.
Many experts believe that unless the economic situation starts to improve the migration figures will continue to rise. A recent survey in the UK also found that a floundering economy, a lack of work opportunities and poor weather has meant a rise in the number of professionals moving to jobs in other countries.
Foreign companies appear to have become more savvy in luring talent out of countries like the UK with many offering to help with the cost of moving, providing housing allowances and offering flights back home as part of the package.
Countries with English as a main language remain the most popular with expats from the UK and Ireland including Australia, Canada and the Middle East. The majority of those who have moved overseas said that are earning more than they did at home and had a better quality of life.
